“I read your Derby post awhile back and was wondering what you’d recommend wearing to the US Open. I’m going for the first time this year and, from what I’ve seen on TV, seems like there’s a pretty wide range of attire. What would you wear?” - Max

Hey, Max! Thanks so much for reading, and for the question. The US Open is admittedly more familiar to me as I've been fortunate enough to attend in the past. I like to think I can give sage-enough advice about dressing for any occasion, but it's easier when you've actually been there.

As you may be able to tell from our product assortment (CourtRallyTretorn Nylites…) we are big tennis fans. Aesthetically and athletically. And while it's tempting to wear my own tennis getup à la Wimbledon (short white shorts, white pique polo,) it's important to remember that you're just a spectator. I would say this goes for all sporting events, not just tennis. And to your point, a lot of people do wear athletic gear! That's fine, but it's not my bag.

So here are my general guidelines. Pants, not shorts… lightweight trousers or jeans. A woven shirt (sport or dress,) or maybe a polo if you're feeling a little sportier. On your feet, loafers or sneakers (lace-up shoes feel weird for this). And definitely a sport coat. 'Cause I can always take it off if I’m too hot.

But let's dial it in a little more and talk specifics. I zoomed over to the store to take a look at the options on the floor. Here are a few choose-your-own adventure outfits where we just couldn't break the ties. One's got a choice of shoes, one's got a choice of polos, and one's got a choice of sport shirt. The last one is more straight-up — it's just what I wore last time I went! Thanks to Alex, Chris, and Jon in Atlanta for helping me with these. Jon even found a couple pairs of Tretorns hiding in the back… those have been in short supply lately. Ahead, four (or seven!) options that I think will look great. Giant souvenir tennis ball optional.

Thanks again for the fun challenge, Max. Have a great time and make sure to spend like, $28 on a Honey Deuce… it's part of the experience. And who knows, maybe I'll see you there. Ann and I are trying to get our act together to go this year… it's been awhile!
